Whether shopping in-person or online, consumers are buying more “personal care, household needs, and grocery products” from drug stores, according to VMSD.

A survey by Acosta Group found that shoppers favor drug stores over grocery stores for their ease and convenience and for “delivering a fast trip experience.” Lower prices than at grocery stores are also a factor for consumers. And while many Americans live in food deserts many miles from the nearest grocery store, one in three shoppers live less than a mile from a drug store. 70% of respondents shop for non-prescription needs, while 69% shop for groceries and things like candy and hair care items.
